Saturday, May 19, 1888 Came home for the summer by the 11 oclock train. [?] call from a lady living in Wisconsin, the wife of a Methodist minister who is attending the general Conference here. They have [?] Oregon. She said she used to see my pictures in Chicago and [?] liked them. Sara and I moved some of my things over to [?] in the rooms dear Gertrude and I occupied in our early [married?] life. Very sacred associations surround this little place [shabbily?] neglected as it seems. I wish I were able to put it in order [?] Sara and I were living here. [The following on different paper] Left N. Y. for the season by 11.30 train. Fine day but cool. Set out the plants Roses, Verbenas, Petunias, [?], Zinnias, Carnations etc. & early Cabbage, Cauliflower & Egg plants. Lilacs not out yet. Apples not entirely out but the country beautiful. Bowyer came up yesterday.
