Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, January 23, 1888, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Monday, Jan 23, 1888 I am writing to Lucy. I had just written her that I had been in to see Phillips & Wells the agents in whose hands I put our property but that they seemed to take no interest in it and would not unless we spent a lot of money to advertise it. Sara has just come back from the office and brought me a letter from them in which they say that on Saturday they had an interview with a Mr. J. R. Sa[?]son who wants to buy a nice place in or near Kingston and they mentioned our place. He told them he had been on the grounds but admitted he did not know it was for sale. they intimated that he might come here before seeing them again but wished me to consider him as their customer. I have written them that I will be here for a week or ten days and will be glad to see him and show him how pleasant it is in winter.
