Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, December 15, 1888, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Saturday, Dec 15, 1888 [McEntee mistakenly dates this entry Dec 14] Went home by the 11.30 train. It was a bright beautiful day but very cold. I drove down from the station in a cab. Lucy was very busy getting ready to leave for Fort Bridger in the 8.40 train. Mrs. Lamont Smith and Mrs. Haysradt were there and Mrs. Cantine came in. The cabs came for her promptly at 8.20 and took her two trunks and herself, Sedgwick, Sara, Jimmy McEntee and me up to the station. The train was half an hour late owing to the tunnel transfer. We saw her in the sleeping car and the next thing she was gone to the great sorrow of all of us. We feel we have hardly seen her but she is needed at home, and parting is the daily trial in this life. Sedgwick bore the separation very bravely. We all walked down.
