Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, July 3, 1885, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Friday, July 3, 1885 Still cool weather and a slight shower with fine rich atmosphere. Spent the forenoon doing many things. Took my father out later in the day to see the arrival of the Hartford City Guards on their way to the Grand Hotel. They were received and escorted by the Kingston 14th [?] Co. We drove up to the City Hall and saw them pass. Downing came this evening. Had a letter from Fuller wanting me to come down next week and I have written [?] I would go down on Tuesday. Wrote also to Mrs. Ely and to Hanna & Ives in Detroit telling them I would like the money for the picture as soon as convenient.
