Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, September 26, 1884, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Friday, Sept 26, 1884 Beautiful morning. Our last day for work as we go home tomorrow. Finished the sketch I began yesterday which I think is one of my best in many ways. There is a perceptible increase in the Autumn color and every thing is growing more beautiful. I would like to stay a little longer on many accounts but feel I am needed at home. I made a hurried sketch in the afternoon and took a walk down the brook where I saw some trees I shall try to get a pencil sketch of tomorrow forenoon. This brook is a lovely place in the Autumn and the 25th of September is the time to come here.
