Friday, May 23, 1884 Went to Kingston this morning taking Charlie and Girard with me. I had had to discipline them for pulling up my verbenas yesterday. Went to see Mrs. Rora about Julias change of place for her wedding. She is a colored woman who was to officiate. After I returned went over to the cemetery and finished planting the flowers on all the graves except Gussies on which I planted some Nasturtium seeds and put some good earth on and shall transplant morning glories. Worked in the flower garden and helped Sara and cousin put the matting in the sitting room. A violent thunder storm came up after tea overflowing the gutters and leaking through the roof in many places. I am afraid our new paper in the hall is damaged. The roof of the wing is very bad. Louise Brodhead was here. The lightning was incessant and must have struck very near here. Now at 9 o'clock the thunder is still muttering and we may have another shower. Wrote to Weir. My cigars from Phil came today.
