Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, January 17, 1884, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Thursday, Jan 17, 1884 The weather remains cold and bright. I painted all day. Mr. Layton came in and paid me for his picture. I had already sent it. Found Girard at Calverts when I went over to dinner and Emma Brace. Girard had one of his violent head aches. I went down to Fourth St. after dinner to escort Emma and Julia who were to stay there and then to the club where I staid until near midnight.
