Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, November 24, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Saturday, Nov 24, 1883 Painted all forenoon on my studio. It was foggy and damp but cleared off warm and pleasant by noon. In the afternoon I went down town and paid a great many bills getting rid of over five hundred dollars. Paid $150 on a note to S. Abbey & Sons, Paid Tracy Stebbins poor Maurices funeral expenses, Myre, the wagon makers bill, Canfield, Terrek and others. Girard rode down with me. He is in great straits and says his father refused on the interview he had with him last night, to do any thing for him. I feel sorry for him and am trying to think out some way to help him.
