Jervis McEntee Diaries

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, November 1, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Thursday, Nov 1, 1883 Painted all day on my picture and am getting it well advanced. Shall show it to Sara and Downing tomorrow. No one has seen it yet. It has been a beautiful day, rather cool but with rich and splendid skies. Twenty nine years ago this evening I left for New York to be married to my dear Gertrude. I had worked all day about my new little house to which we were to come and I remember I only just took time to dress and meet the train. Have written to Mr & to Mrs. Conkey and sent my list of pictures for the first exhibition of our New American Art Union.
