Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, June 4, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Monday, June 4, 1883 The West Shore rail road began running passengers trains between Newburg and New York today. We cleaned my room today taking every thing out of it and shaking the carpet. We found lots of Buffalo bugs. I painted all the cracks in the floor with spirits of turpentine before we relaid the carpet. My father is ill from working [?] all day Saturday. He looked very feeble tonight when he came out of his room. Marion came up on the evening train. Maurice keeps away. There is no telling what condition he is in by this time. It has been a very warm day.
