Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, January 29, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Monday, Jan 29, 1883 This would have been my dear Gertrudes forty ninth birth day. They come and go but she never grows older to me. Mary and I came down in the noon train. Tom drove us over on the ice and Pa, who did not feel well this morning, and little Charlie came along for a ride. I left home with regret. The day is full of sad memories and besides I have anxieties which I wish I could put at rest. Spent the evening at Eastman Johnsons. Met Mr & Mrs Col Gillespie, Mrs. Austin Flint, Mr & Mrs Lockwood Deforest and several others.
