Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, December 19, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Wednesday, Dec 19, 1883 Snow storm last night and sleighing in the city. Downing came from Hillsboro this morning. Mary came down from Rondout in the snow storm which continues today. Worked on "Telling the Bees" a lovely quiet day to work. Went to the Art Union reception this evening. Very few there and very small attendance today as the storm was severe. However they took about 20 subscriptions. Whittredge was there and Eastman came. They both came to my studio with me. Showed interest in my picture and Whittredge said he had a drawing of some hives which he would hunt up and bring to me. Eastman stayed until after midnight.
