Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, November 5, 1882, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Sunday, Nov 5, 1882 Went to church with my mother to hear the new minister Mr. Magee. I was not particularly impressed still it is hardly fair to judge from once hearing him. After dinner Girard, Jamie and I went over to South Rondout and climbed the hill to the pier from which the high bridge is to start. Afterwards we recrossed the ferry went up to the tunnel and along the work to the Wiltwyck cemetery. Hundreds of people were out inspecting the progress of the work. It has been a "Roman winter day" and the leaves are pretty much fallen. Wrote to Mary.
