Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, November 21, 1882, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Tuesday, Nov 21, 1882 Clear cold day. Put on the double windows and was at work protecting the pump from freezing down at the barn when Rev. Mr. McKinney the Baptist clergyman from Kingston was announced. This broke up my work. He spent the rest of the afternoon and I asked him to stay to tea. He was very genial but we got to discussing spiritualism and the course of the conversation showed me that he is very orthodox and that we see things from totally different stand points. Still we got on well and I think he had a pleasant visit. A letter from Eastman Johnson.
