Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, May 4, 1882, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Thursday, May 4, 1882 Painted on my second Katahdin and also made a duplicate of the picture of Hussey Hill which I have painted for Calvert to send to Cuthbert. Miss Hallowell called and I promised to send her my Academy picture and one of two smaller ones. Dined at Pinchots with Booth, Van Wast, Thompson, Whitelaw Reid, Calvert, Parke Godwin, Eastman Johnson, Der Chaillu and Amos Eno. I was sorry to see E. B. take wine. After dinner Eastman, Booth, Launt, Der Chaillu and I went to the Century. E. B. took beer and we staid late and Thompson and I went home with him.
