Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Thursday, March 23, 1882, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Thursday March 23, 1882 (Cont’d)-
Mary and I called on the Wheelers at the Strathmore. She seems very happy because she is successful. Afterwards went to the “Zig Zag” party given by Howland and Cauldwell at the University building. There were about a hundred there, artists and others and we had a very jolly time. Satirical pictures, a nice supper and plenty of champagne (of which I, however, took only one glass and ate only half a dozen oysters). Darky minstrels who were capital, music, recitations and a good time lasting until half past one.
