Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, July 9, 1882, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Sunday, July 9, 1882 Over snow fields and up steep ascents. Rain, snow and wind. Camp on a hill overlooking an awful amphitheatre and in view of the summit. The pass a thousand feet above us. No feed for the horses. Cut down trees to protect the camp from the wind.
