Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, December 11, 1882, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Monday, Dec 11, 1882 A grey day with a little snow. Mary, Downing and I came down on the noon train. My father was lying down and asleep when we left but he looks very feeble and frail. Mrs. Roora came down with us a very pretty interesting woman. Made an ineffectual attempt to call on Mrs. Church who is staying at Mr. Osbornes. Thought I could go directly to the house but took the precaution to look in the directory which misdirected me. Rang at three houses and finally gave it up and called on Mrs. Wilson whom I have not seen in two years. She is suffering from rheumatism but persisted in talking about Mrs. Gifford and her troubles with Sanfords family.
