Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Saturday, October 8, 1881, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Saturday October 8-
Left home by 6:30 ferry boat for Boston. Ample time to breakfast at Worth House, Hudson. Train leaves for Boston at 9:30 and arrives (via B.&A.) at 4:40. Ample time tor each Bangor train (7 p.m.) and dine. Met Eastman fortunately who had not got my telegram of Thursday, but came on my letter taking the chances of meeting me. Telegraphed from Pittsfield for section in sleeper. Arrived in Bangor Sunday (Oct.) 9 to find the train went no farther until Monday. Breakfasted at Bangor House. There they suggested to us to go and see the superintendent of the road which we did and found a freight train was going to Mattawamkeag in half an hour and would wait for us to get our trunks. Hustled around and got the baggage and came to Mattawamkeag, arriving there at 1 o’clock…and at 3 left for Medway where we arrived at 5. Cold and fine. No guides. Sent for Royal who came.
