Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, September 8, 1880, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Wednesday, Sept 8, 1880 Took the train from Fall River to New Bedford and boat from there to Nantucket. Rained a little and was pretty rough. Passed a large three masted schooner which signaled us to ask their way having got confused among these shoals and dangerous places. I thought it a most perilous position. Found Reuben on the dock at Nantucket and together we drove to the house. Staid there until Saturday.
