Thursday, Sept 23, 1880 Had a note from Mr. Chickering telling me he would be ready for me and by previous appointment I went to Boston and met him at his office. He told me his wife was ill and his little daughter had a slow fever and he seemed really distressed and disappointed. At first I thought I would not go out at all but he wished me to and I concluded to spend the night with him at his country house. We dined together and then went to call on Porter who was not in and on Munzig whom we saw. Also on Ordway and then to the Providence Depot. As we reached the street from the Studio Building we met Annie and Fanny Lee whom I wanted to see and whose address I had failed to get. When we got to the cars they came in the same car on their way to Jamaica Plains where they had just moved and I sat near them and had a pleasant chat with them. Mr. Chickering lives at Milton and the station is Readville. We walked to the house a distance of perhaps a mile. Took a ride and had tea having previously met his daughter & mother-in-law. Had a cigar together in the evening and retired early.
