Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, October 22, 1880, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Friday, Oct 22, 1880 It rained in the afternoon. We took the occasion to burn out the chimneys, five in all, the parlor, sitting room, my mothers room, dining room and kitchen. Three franklins had to be moved, but it was a great satisfaction to have it all done. Mr & Mrs. Sawyer came by the [?] train which was an hour late and the ferry boat had laid up. I waited for them and they came over in a row boat.
