Jervis McEntee Diaries

Wednesday March 31, 1880

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, March 31, 1880, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Wednesday, Mar 31, 1880 Painted a little picture today for Downing to give to Fred Stedman. Painted on my picture "Sources of the Delaware" and improved it by making the group of trees on the left dark instead of light. Drew in a new picture 20x24 an Indian Summer effect. Mrs. Pychouska called and brought me a "Daffodorem-dilly" from her garden. A man from Devoes called to send me some of their canvas and colors. Went to Fred Stedmans wedding with Mary, Julia, Marion and Gertrude. Downing was his "best man". A very nice wedding and went off with satisfaction to all. A note from Booth asking me when I wanted to come to the play. He began an engagement at his theatre last night in "Macbeth". Wrote him this evening and also to Sara.
