Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, June 11, 1880, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Friday, June 11, 1880 Went to the Strand and paid Shaw his bill of $190 which I have owed several years. He refused to let me pay interest which I wanted to do. Made a little sketch of a rose bush in color this morning. Subscribed for the Tribune 3 mos including Sunday edition. I have a very lonely and aimless feeling today and keep constantly thinking of dear Gertrude. I am sure I shall never get used to life without her. Sara and I went over to the cemetery after tea and set out some more petunias upon her grave, placed some roses there and I trimmed the morning glories.
