Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, July 31, 1880, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Saturday, July 31, 1880 Painted this forenoon. Went to the Strand in the afternoon and made a gate for the well in order to lock it up as it is getting very low. Lulu Wadworth lost her hat in the well and I fished it out with my pickerel hook. A letter from Mrs Weir, a rather brief note in answer to mine of a few days ago. It seems Emma has a little boy which I did not know before. Bowyer came up on the Powell.
