Wednesday October 8, 1879

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Wednesday, October 8, 1879, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

The Churchs and Mary left at 4. I go at 10.10 to St. John. A golden day. Posted letters to Booth, Sade, Alice, Downing and Eastman. There is to be a fair here today and there is great bustle and bawling of cattle. Send one trunk home by express--did not get a receipt--left at 10.10. The weather hazy and uncomfortably warm. The country until within a few miles of St. John most uninteresting. Bought a St. John paper a short time before we reached there and saw the arrival of Osman and Laura at the Hutel Dufferine. When I reached the hotel they were out to tea, but [?] and Genl. Warner the American consul at whose house they were came up for me and I went there and spent the evening with them.
