Jervis McEntee Diaries

Thursday October 2, 1879

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Thursday, October 2, 1879, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

A most lovely, golden morning with an Indian summer atmosphere and the lake perfectly still. This forenoon went out into the woods and got some autumn leaves. After lunch we went in the big birch across the lake to meet Church and John on their return. Going over I wrote a letter to Downing and copied the "T.D." song for Mrs. Church and Mary. Waited on the beach for Church until nearly five during which I fished and caught some chubs when we went down to Sandy Stream going in at the open mouth and out at the lower, and so home by sunset. After dinner I read from the Victorian Poets to the ladies.
