Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, March 7, 1879, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Went to see Fitch this morning who has paralysis of the face. He saw me but he looked badly and I think ought not to see people. Maurice sent me the Freeman and I saw the notice of the death of Joe Tubbys daughter May who was to be buried today. Poor Joe. I pity him. A letter from Mr. Bates. He regrets he did not buy my little picture last spring. I wrote him he could have it for $200. I think Calvert went to Rondout today. Went to the theatre this evening with Fred Norton, Annie, Julia, Lily to see Engaged. It was very amusing. Agnes, Booth and Lewis taking the leading parts and playing them capitally.
