Went to New York on Tuesday 22nd to pay my rent and because I was restless and unhappy here. Went up to see Eastman who had intended to go to East Hampton the next day but had concluded to go on Thursday. He urged me to go with him and I only wished that I could feel that I could be happy there, I would gladly have gone there. I wrote to Lily French on Tuesday and to Emma yesterday, because I had not had an opportunity to talk with her about her approaching marriage of which she told me when I was there. Eastman sent Phil Wilson down to Marys Tuesday night to urge me to come up and spend the night with them which I did and had a pleasant, happy time and I feel the better for having gone. I came home yesterday in the Powell. I told Mr. Nells to rent my room if he could (I mean my parlor) I concluded I ought to give it up and thus save two hundred dollars a year. Today I have paid some bills in Rondout and went to Kingston to pay the interest on our Mortgages. I spoke to Mr. Kenyon about reducing the interest to 6 pr. ct. He told me there was a pressure all round being brought to bear in that direction but they had done nothing as yet. Received a good letter from Booth from Saratoga, very happy and delighted with his surroundings. This afternoon John & Nannie, Miss Delaprine, Cousin Rachel, Sara and I went by Wallkill Valley R. R. to a pic-nic at Rorendale near the Catholic Church got up by Annie Norton for their church. Met Mrs. Wellington of Boston and Miss [blank] who has become a sister in some Episcopalian order. Girard & Mary drove out.
