Jervis McEntee Diaries

Thursday February 27, 1879

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Thursday, February 27, 1879, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

A letter from Sara in which she gives me a most tender picture of Gertrude over at our little house. Nannie was going out for a short time and she left Gertrude playing at the piano. She said she loved to play in that room. When Nannie returned Gertrude had been in tears overcome by the tender memories and associations of the place. Have painted on the little head and think I am improving it. Fitch came up for a while. He was suffering great pain in one of his ears. He has great domestic trouble with his wifes father. Fred Norton called and Gifford to invite me to dinner tomorrow to meet Mary. Mr. Lane called to see about his Turner. I am going to send it to the Century tomorrow. Went to the Trustees Meeting of the Century this evening. Dr. Bellows Vice Pres. met with us for the first time. Had another letter from Sara wanting me to come up tomorrow or Saturday morning as they are going to invite Mrs. Baldwin then, but I have concluded not to go up this week but stay to the Century monthly meeting. Wrote to Sade this evening. Girard lunched with me today and went home. Fred Stedman came to Mary's this evening. Showed us photographs of his lady love. Old Mr. Hasbrouck was buried today and my father was one of the bearers.
