Jervis McEntee Diaries

Saturday July 20, 1878

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Saturday, July 20, 1878, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Mary and Marian came up on the Powell Tuesday evening and Mary returned to Fishkill this morning with the day boat. Thursday and Friday were exceptionally hot. Yesterday John McEntee, Girard, Mr. Taylor and I went fishing up at the Powder Mill. It was very hot but not as hot as the day before. Found Mr. Osman here when we returned. As we all sat on the porch last evening Frank Thurber and Mrs. Wheeler drove up to call on us. They came by the Powell and are on their way to the Overlook where Mrs. Thurber and her children are staying. We pressed them to spend the night with us but they preferred the Mansion House as they had to leave early this morning. Went out to Leggs Mill for the afternoon and had our tea there.
