Jervis McEntee Diaries

Wednesday November 7, 1877

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Wednesday, November 7, 1877, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Went to New York last Thursday and remained until Monday. Coale and his wife and daughter were there. Breakfasted with them on Friday and had them to lunch at my studio same day which was very stormy. Called on Weir & his wife who were in town. Lieut. Pitcher from Andrews Company called on me. Invited him to the club but he did not come. Monthly meeting of the club Saturday night. Weir breakfasted with me Sunday morning and his brother Julian also just returned from Paris. Weir and I dined at Pinchots and I came home Monday with the 11.30 train. Yesterday and today I have been trying to paint some thing but I seem utterly unable to invent anything. I am about in despair and I seem to grow more and more incompetent.
