Jervis McEntee Diaries

Friday January 5, 1877

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Friday, January 5, 1877, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Booth did not come today until after 12 on account of the funeral of his brother Junius' child and then he was only able to sit a short time. I had changed the background in the Richelieu and worked on it a little. Eastman Johnson came while he was here and Booth gave me the wink to show the pictures to him which I did. He criticized some things but was encouraging on the whole so that now I feel still more confidence in what I have done. I slept very well last night and have felt somewhat better today but by no means well. I shall go home tomorrow for a few days at least until I get well.
