Jervis McEntee Diaries

Tuesday October 31, 1876

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Tuesday, October 31, 1876, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Received a letter from Gertrude last night and wrote to her. Have tried to paint today but cannot work with any heart. I take no pleasure in my work and wonder if I ever will again. Church came and invited me to lunch with him. He has brought down the picture he is painting for Mr. Osborn which he calls the Aegean Sea. It is very fine in parts. Has all his delicacy of manipulation but is unsatisfactory in the foreground. However it is unfinished. Called on the Wheelers this evening.
