Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Saturday, March 4, 1876, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Mrs. Morrell called on me to get me committed to some concessions regarding her pictures. She strikes me as a managing woman of some talent and much persistency, with her eye on Congress and a determination to make all means conspire toward getting her pictures bought by the government. I have no bowels for such people and dont mean to encourage them if I can help it. They can always help themselves. Bowyer whom I met coming out of the theatre last night breakfasted with me this morning. He is a man now having passed his 21st birth day.
