Jervis McEntee Diaries

Friday March 3, 1876

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Friday, March 3, 1876, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Mrs. Jno Weeks and her father Mr. Delano called. Fred Norton and I went to the Paul Theatre to see Rome in his play of "Brass". I was not much interested. After the play we went around to the Century. Mr. De Haas came after me to advise him about lending his picture to be examined for admission to the Centennial. I utterly refused to commit myself and told him that as a member of the Committee on Selection he ought not to ask any such thing of me. The imprudence and persistence of small men is wonderful.
