Jervis McEntee Diaries
Thursday March 16, 1876
Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Thursday, March 16, 1876, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Rain and sleet all day so that I did not venture out. Gifford dined with us and Gertrude, Julia Vaux and I went up to the Union League Theatre in a pouring rain in a carriage where Julia, Bowyer and Downing played "My Uncles Mill" for the benefit of the Womens Centennial fund. Bierstadt and his wife came in to see my wife. Church was here at the time and I think would have been glad to have been some where else as I dont think they adore each other. What hypocrites the best of us are and I shudder to think I may not be among the best.< Previous Entry | Next Entry >
