Took a long walk this morning down the Bowery to Chatham Square up East Broadway where Dr. Sawyer used to live 20 years ago and which is given up now to German boarding houses and the like, up Grand St. down Houston to the ferry and so by a round about way home. It is quite entertaining to go to these parts of the city which I have not been to in many years. Shortly after I returned John McEntee his wife and Lillie called. I tried to have them stay for lunch as I expected Mary and Marian from Rondout in the noon train but they had some engagement and could not. Girard came shortly after they left and while he was here Mary and Marian came Marian bringing Lou's little puppy from Rondout. They went home at 3 o'clock. We had another Centennial committee meeting at 4 oclock. There was but little to do as all is in working order. The circular to the Artists was presented all printed and will be issued tomorrow. The Artists Fund sale takes place this evening. I did not attend. Cook took the occasion to get off some of his malignant spite against Hicks & the Academy in the Tribune this morning. Wrote to Gertrude, to Mr. James and sent Ward a copy of our proceedings at the Constitutional Committee meeting on Thursday.
