Jervis McEntee Diaries

Monday March 15, 1875

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Monday, March 15, 1875, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

A rainy foggy, dark day. Went out and ordered the carriage for the wedding this evening, bought a fan for Gertrude and some flowers. Came home and painted the suit of armor in the "Ginevra". Sara came over and wanted us to come for them with our carriage for the wedding. Had our dinner at 4 and at 6.30 duly arrayed set out in a drizzle. Called for the Vaux's and we all rode up together. The wedding was very pleasant and went off very nicely. I was amazed at the quantity of rich presents and couldnt help thinking what a load for a poor young man to set out with. Tomorrow the scene changes and I am to act as bearer at poor Hays funeral.
