Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, September 18, 1874, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Wednesday, Nov 18, 1874- Gertrude, Julia Dillon and I went up to High Falls on Saturday last to visit at Fred Nortons and remained there until Tuesday. Wrote to Booth last night and to Eastman Johnson tonight. Lily McEntee stood for me today in a satin dress for a picture from the "Mistletoe Bough". I have begun a picture of her just getting into the chest, but my facilities for painting here are so poor that I am afraid I shall not succeed very well. I need a larger room and a larger light when I know I could do better. Took a long walk out on the Flat bush road and came home by the Roatina road. The weather remains mild.
