Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, May 14, 1874, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Thursday, May 14, 1874- Yesterday went up to Eastman Johnsons to remind him of the Academy Annual Meeting thinking he would likely have forgotten it, as he had. We went down town together to select some mill boards which we got. I feel very badly as though I would have one of my severe head aches but I got through the day without it. From down town we went to the Academy meeting where we arrived just in time to answer to our names and after a little lunch attended to business. Whittredge was elected President; E. Johnson Vice President; T. A. Richards Secty; Greene Treas; Jones Recording Secty; Council: Ward, Hicks, Beard, J. G. Brown, Mr. Hart, McEntee; Hanging Committe: Wood, Hall, Butler; Academicians: Homer Martin, Selstedt, Bristol; Associates: Bradford, Ed. Moran, Bridgman. La Farge brought up a resolution pledging the Academy to protect in a general way the right of Academicians to exhibit which produced some sharp discussion but was finally carried. The dinner, never a very good one passed off harmoniously and Weir and Thompson came home with me and remained until 12 o'clock.
