Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, March 26, 1874, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Thursday, March 26, 1874- I awoke with a headache, in fact was conscious of a bad feeling in my head all night. My noon had to put my feet in hot water. Meantime Joe Tubby called but I could not see him. After a lunch and a cup of strong coffee I gradually grew better and by three o'clock my headache had nearly left me. Weir came and brought his picture of the "Confessional" which he has in Fitch's room. Gertrude and I went in to see it. I liked it much better than I feared I should. I think it an exceedingly good picture. From there we went to Giffords room, to Whittredges and to Hubbards.
