Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Tuesday, January 27, 1874, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Tuesday, January 27, 1874- Whittredge came in to tell me that he had a little daughter born last night. Mr. Hedian an art dealer from Baltimore called and after speaking in a very flattering manner of my work ended by offering me $150 for a picture I ask $300 for. A headache which I have been expecting a long time culminated today. I sat in hot water from 2 o'clock until 9 am then went to bed in sheer despair to suffer intense pain until 4 o'clock when I got a little sleep.
