Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Monday, July 21, 1873, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Monday, July 21, 1873- This has been another charming day. Grand skies of rich soft grey clouds and a sober shadowy landscape with no wind, a day with almost a hint of autumn in it. In the afternoon my father and mother, Mary Marion and I took a ride to Rosendale by the creek docks and returned by Lucas' Turnpike. There was no dust and no wind and we enjoyed it exceedingly.
