Sketchbooks contains pencil and ink sketches of naval ships, household objects, plants, and decorative designs. Also include cartoons illustrating major battles in American history.

58 sketches are in pencil, ink, watercolor, gouache, and oil paint. Subjects include Japanese figures playing musical instruments, human faces, and classical sculpture seens at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Also included are landscapes from the British West Indies and a set of illustrations for a childrens book "The Power of the Human Eye."
