Sketchbooks, 1944-1955 4 v.

Sketchbooks contain ink and pencil sketches of landscapes, machinery, and farm life, including barnyard animals, farm workers, and barns.

One sketchbook, created between 1944 and 1945, contains sketches for specific landscape paintings and murals, some with themes of hunting and fishing. Sketches accompany notes about each piece as well as statements regarding the goals and challenges of painting.

Another sketchbook documents various sites, statues, and people seen on a trip to Rome in 1955. This sketchbook also includes a picture of a dog, Toby.
