Archivos Virtuales in the Archives of American Art

Archivos Virtuales focuses on access to information about the Archives of American Art's extensive holdings of papers of and about Latino and Latin American artists. In this guide, the term Latino refers to Americans of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican, and Central and South American descent. Latin American refers to Mexicans, Central and South Americans, and peoples of the Caribbean of Spanish and French heritage.

Through the accumulation of these separate but interrelated collections, the Archives of American Art gathers together in one place cross-cultural documentation on such subjects as Mexican muralism in the United States, European and Latin American strains of surrealism, New Deal art patronage, and the Chicano art movement.

This site was made possible through a grant from the Federal funds for Latino programming, administered by the Smithsonian Center for Latino Initiatives.
