Royal Chicano Air Force (RCAF)

The Royal Chicano Air Force, originally the Rebel Chicano Art Front, was formed in 1968 by José Montoya and Esteban Villa, 2 art professors at California State University, Sacramento and their student, Ricardo Favela.

Their purpose was to bring political action and artistic expression together in the Chicano community. The principal dictum of the RCAF, La locura lo cura ("Craziness is its own cure"), has infused the serious commitment of the group with a humorous working class sensitivity that served to endear the RCAF to the community.
