ROSINA EMMET SHERWOOD (1854-1948) , who came from a family of artists (her sisters, Jane and Lydia, were also painters), studied privately with William Merritt Chase and in Paris at the Julian Academy. During her marriage Sherwood reduced her artistic activity until financial reverses dictated her return to painting around the turn of the century. Her sketchbook, dated 1895, includes a strong pencil drawing of her daughter Cynthia asleep.

Another diary, 1891-1933, contains sporadic entries by Julia and Rosina, including an account of the painting of Rosina's daughter by Cecilia Beaux. Correspondence, 1792-1985, consists of letters between family members, primarily Julia and her daughters. Other correspondents include Cecilia Beaux, Henry James, Ellen "Bay" Emmet Rand, and Rosamond Sherwood.
