Sketch by McKee Barclay of the Baltimore Sun. From left to right: Joseph "Joe" Cannon (1836-1926), Speaker of the House of Representatives; William Howard Taft; Theodore Roosevelt; and possibly Robert LaFollete, Senator from Washington, who was one of Cannon's opponents.

Nelson Harding (1876-1944), on the staff of the Brooklyn Eagle captured the mood of the Republican Convention of 1912 in Chicago, when a power struggled between former president Theodore Roosevelt and the incumbent, William Howard Taft, divided the party.
